When will the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games be held?

After the International Olympic Committee confirmed that the 2020 Olympics will be postponed for 12 months, the 2020 Olympics will no longer be held.

Instead, these events are scheduled for nearly 12 months on that day:

  • Olympic Games start date: July 23, 2021
  • Olympic end date: August 8, 20201

The Paralympic Games were also moved back for one year, from August 24, 2021 to September 5, 2021.

What did the International Olympic Committee say?

In a statement released after the postponement, the Olympic Games will be rescheduled.

The International Olympic Committee said: “Under the current circumstances, based on the information provided by the World Health Organization today, the IOC President and the Prime Minister of Japan have concluded that the 32nd Olympic Games in Tokyo must be rescheduled beyond 2020, but In order to protect the health of athletes, everyone participating in the Olympic Games and the international community cannot be later than the summer of 2021.

“Leaders agreed that in these turbulent times, the Tokyo Olympics can become a beacon of hope for the world, and the Olympic flame may become the dawn at the end of the tunnel in which the world is located. Therefore, people agree that the Olympic flame will continue to stay in Japan. People also agree, The Olympic Games will retain the names of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Toshiro Muto, head of the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee, added on Friday, April 10: “I don’t think anyone can say whether it’s possible [the pandemic] Will it be controlled by July next year.

“Of course we can’t give a clear answer.

“We have decided to postpone the Olympics for one year. Therefore, this means that all we can do is to work hard to prepare for the Olympics. We sincerely hope that next year, mankind will be able to overcome the coronavirus crisis.”
