California Highway Patrol officials said a 6-year-old boy was shot and killed in an apparent road rage incident on Highway 55 in Orange on Friday morning, and the gunman is still at large.
According to the Health Protection Center, when he was shot in a northbound shot at No. 55 near Chapman Avenue, the child was sitting in the booster seat of the passenger in the right rear of the mother’s car.
He was transported by the Orange Fire Department to the Orange County Children’s Hospital, where he died there. The authorities have not yet identified the victims.
The boy’s mother was not injured.
The authorities are looking for the shooter, who is said to be a white car. No detailed suspicious description has been released yet.
According to the incident record of the Center for Health Protection, SigAlert was issued at around 8:30 in the morning. During an active investigation, all northbound lanes north of Chapman have been closed. Traffic was temporarily diverted to Highway 22.
A CHP official at the scene said that the road rage incident was an “isolated” incident and had nothing to do with the series of more than 60 BB or pellet gun shots reported in Orange, Riverside and Los Angeles County in the past three weeks. Highway 91.
