Ottawa police have kidnapped and assaulted 10 allegations, including the kidnapping and assault of a 32-year-old woman who was accused of kidnapping an 8-day-old baby on Mother’s Day.

The police said in a press release issued on Monday that the defendant and the new mother had been talking on social media chat groups. Police said that on Friday, the defendant brought gifts to the home of his new mother in western Ottawa.

The defendant allegedly returned home at around 1:40 pm on Sunday, forced her to enter the house, subdued the residents of the house with bear spray, and left with the newborn.

The police said the neighbors were awakened in the accident and intervened. One of them “detained” the woman until the police arrived.

The police said the child was not physically harmed.

The woman from Chauville, Quebec faces the following charges:

  • Kidnapping of persons under 14 years of age.
  • assault.
  • Beat with a weapon.
  • Carry hidden weapons.
  • Possess dangerous weapons.
  • Deliberately break into and enter the house.
  • Harass by watching and trouble.
  • Three accusations of administering toxic substances with intent to endanger life.

The police said investigators from the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Department believed that the defendant may have spoken with other new mothers in similar groups.
