New Jersey – Since being indicted on federal corruption charges earlier this year U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez has reportedly raised more than $1.5 million for his legal defense fund. The Associated Press reported a disclosure filed with the Senate shows that more than $867,000 has been spent on his defense so far.

Menendez was indicted on 14 counts after being accused of helping a Florida doctor through his influence in exchange for lavish vacations and donations to his campaign. He has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges filed against him.

Hundreds of people and companies have reportedly donated to the defense fund. The fund reportedly began raising money last year prior to his indictment, and has raised approximately $2.9 million total.

Michael Soliman, a Menendez political adviser, said of the report “Today's report reaffirms the broad, deep and unwavering support the Senator has in New Jersey and across the country from those who know him, who share his longstanding beliefs on critical issues, and who want him to continue to fight for those beliefs and on their behalf.”
