France – New details have been released in the Germanwings crash that resulted in the deaths of 150 people on board. As reported by Us Weekly, the airline and Lufthansa, its parent company, released a statement on Monday expressing condolences to the families of the victims.
The airline’s statement written by Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr and Thomas Winkelmann, a spokesman for Germanwings’ executive board, is quoted as reading, “The incomprehensible loss of 150 lives has filled us with the deepest sadness… We extend our sincere condolences to the families and friends of our passengers and colleagues. They are in our thoughts and prayers. We wish to thank the many thousands of helpers in France, Spain, Germany and numerous other countries around the world for their assistance and support. On behalf of all employees of the Lufthansa Group.”
The statement comes as new details about the co-pilot of Germanwings Flight 9525 at the center of the tragedy, Andreas Lubitz, have emerged.
An ongoing investigation into Lubitz’s past has led to the revelation that medical records show he had a history of experiencing suicidal thoughts. One incident was documented prior to him obtaining a pilot license. In addition, according to a recent New York Times report, the pilot had been experiencing problems with his vision that may have been linked to a psychological issue.
