Russia – Violetta Degtiareva, the Russian tennis player touted as the next Anna Kournikova, has died. As reported by the New York post, Degtiareva passed away suddenly during a training session. She is stated to have suffered with heart failure.
According to the news source, Degtiareva died on January 12; however, news of her death was not revealed to fans until a friend posted about it on Facebook several days later.
Close friend and fellow tennis player Anastasia Vdovenco is quoted as posting in her reaction to her friend’s death on social media, “I can hardly believe it… Rest in peace.”
In tennis, Degtiareva was ranked 1,084 in the world at the time of her death; however, the 23-year-old had become widely popular.
