U.S. – A man who was jailed for 2½ years over a fatal vehicle accident involving a Toyota says he still suffers with emotional distress linked to the crash. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Koua Fong Lee, who has filed a lawsuit against the automaker, testified in court that thinking about the 1996 incident causes his heart to race and body tremors.
Lee was released from jail following reports that some Toyota vehicles had a sudden acceleration causing defect. Lee and several other plaintiffs are seeking damages from Toyota Motor Corp. stemming from the crash.
Lee’s 1996 Camry LE V6 was not part of the mass recall involving several Toyota car models. The judge in the case is quoted as instructing jurors, “You should not consider the sudden acceleration recalls for any reason in this case.”
