Minneapolis – A petition for a protective order against Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has been filed following allegations of child abuse. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), authorities filed for the order on Friday in Minnesota.

As noted in the report, Hennepin County Human Services requested in the petition that the judge prohibit the use of corporal punishment or physical punishment by Peterson on his four-year-old son. The protective order would also require the professional football player to complete an assessment on parenting.

Peterson is facing a charge for child abuse in Texas over his alleged use of a wooden paddle in spanking the child. He is set to be arraigned on October 8.

Rusty Hardin, Peterson’s attorney, is quoted by the AP as stating of the matter, “This petition reflects that a conscientious government agency wants to work with the parent to protect a child and to ensure that alternative methods of discipline are adopted.”
