Arizona – Jodi Arias, the woman convicted of killing her former boyfriend, Travis Alexander, has won a delay in the retrial of the penalty phase of her case. As reported by Reuters, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Sherry Stephens granted a request for a delay made by Arias, who is representing herself in the penalty phase retrial.
A court spokesperson has stated that jury selection will now be pushed back three weeks, and is scheduled for September 29. Arias made the request for a delay due to issues with meeting with a potential witness according to the spokesperson.
Arias was convicted last year for the murder of Travis, who was found dead in his home in 2008. She claimed she had killed him in self-defense. A new jury will determine whether Arias will receive the death penalty.
