California – A woman who was allegedly kidnapped by her mother’s boyfriend, whom she eventually married, several years ago, recently reported him to authorities after being reunited with her mother. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the woman, who disappeared at the age of 15, was convinced by her mother to report Isidro Garcia for alleged kidnapping and abuse, after saying she was held in captivity for over a decade.

California prosecutors filed felony charges against Garcia in connection with the woman’s claims on Thursday.

Garcia’s attorneys allege the woman made up the stories about physical and sexual abuse due to their separation. Neighbors have provided varying statements that support or dispute the claims.

Farrah Emami, a spokeswoman for Orange County’s district attorney, is quoted by the AP as stating of the woman, “Over the course of many, many years, her freedoms may have increased, but she was still mentally his captive…I’m sure the neighbors are stating what they saw, but what was going on privately in the home was different. This was prolonged and extended emotional, physical and sexual abuse.”
