Fort Lauderdale, FL – Royal Caribbean International made the decision to bring one of its cruise ships back early due to an outbreak of the stomach flu. As reported by the Sun Sentinel, more than 600 passengers and crew members became sick aboard the Explorer of the Seas ship during a 10-day Caribbean cruise.
As noted in the report, the decision was made by the cruise line after a consultation between its medical team and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention representatives.
Royal Caribbean is quoted as issuing the statement following its decision, “We think the right thing to do is to bring our guests home early, and use the extra time to sanitize the ship even more thoroughly… We are sorry for disappointing our guests, and we are taking several steps to compensate them for their inconvenience.”
