Florida – A Florida woman whose credit card was stolen is reportedly embroiled in a legal battle with a yacht company seeking payment for a wedding charged to the stolen card unbeknownst to her. As reported by Credit.com, the woman began noticing unauthorized charges on her card after making a Groupon purchase, including a $15,000 bill for a yacht rental. The rental was reportedly used for a wedding.
Gerri Detweiler, director of consumer education for Credit.com, is quoted as stating of credit card theft, “The Truth in Lending Act is pretty clear in the case of the consumer’s liability for fraudulent charges…They can’t blame the consumer here.”
The woman was not held liable for the charges with the credit card company, but the yacht company that hosted the wedding is still seeking payment.
