Oil giant BP recently launched a website in an effort to defend itself against allegations surrounding the ongoing controversy related to the 2010 oil spill. The website reads in an introductory statement, “Despite the company’s actions, and the tangible progress seen, misinformation persists about the recovery of the Gulf and the legal issues relating to the accident and spill. BP will use this site to attempt to set the record straight, and will update it frequently with relevant information.” (http://www.thestateofthegulf.com/)

As noted by the BP Gulf Oil Spill Help Desk, a civil trial is currently being heard in the U.S. District Court in New Orleans regarding gross negligence claims against the company. The website counters the claims by stating, “This is an extremely high bar that BP believes the plaintiffs did not prove in this case, and any gross negligence finding is therefore unwarranted.”

The help desk notes that although BP lists amounts on the site the company has paid in restitution to those hurt by the spill, oil spill attorneys throughout the country agree that there remain thousands of individuals who have yet to be justly compensated for damages they incurred as a result.

Included in the list of those groups attorneys are fighting to seek compensation for are response workers who were sickened by toxic exposure to oil and chemical dispersants used in cleanup efforts. A settlement has been proposed, and is currently being considered, to compensate people for medical expenses and other losses who participated in the oil spill cleanup and suffered health complications as a result.

Those who want more information about the proposed settlement, or who have questions about the medical and legal options of BP oil spill cleanup workers can contact the BP Gulf Oil Spill Help Desk today for a free consultation to discuss their case.
