Tennessee – A gunman has been placed in custody after a shooting at a Naval base in Tennessee. As reported by The Christian Science Monitor, the suspected shooter, a member of the National Guard, opened fire on Thursday, wounding two soldiers before being disarmed and taken into custody.
As noted in the report, a law enforcement official who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated the gunman was a recruiter who had been relieved of duty.
Maj. Gen. Max Haston, Tennessee’s adjutant general, is quoted by the AP as stating of the shooting, “You never think something like this is going to happen on your watch or in good old Tennessee here.”
The incident is still under investigation.
