Kenya – A Kenyan court has sentenced four Somali pirates to seven years in prison connection with a 2010 fishing dhow hijacking. As reported by Reuters, the court handed down the sentences on Wednesday.

Prosecutors stated the men were armed with rocket-propelled grenades, an AK-47 rifle, and other weapons when they carried out the hijacking of the dhow in the Indian Ocean.

As noted by Reuters, the men, Abdirahman Isse Mohamed, Mohamed Osman Farah, Feisal Abdi Muse and Noor Ali Mohamed, were handed over to Kenyan authorities after being arrested by Spanish naval forces.

Jared Magolo, the attorney for the men, says he will be seeking his clients’ consent to appeal in the case.
