Florida – Defense attorneys of George Zimmerman have released photos and text messages from Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old killed during an altercation with Zimmerman in February of last year. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the images and texts from Martin’s cell phone were released prior to a hearing to determine whether they would be allowed to be used at the murder trial of Zimmerman.
The photos purportedly show Martin blowing smoke and extending his middle finger, among other things.
Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s defense lawyer, is quoted by the AP as stating of potential use of the materials in trial if prosecutors discuss Martin’s character, “If the state puts at issue Trayvon, who he was. If the state makes that an issue, we get to respond to that.”
Zimmerman’s trial is set to begin next month.
