Washington – Former IRS Chief Douglas Shulman testified Tuesday at a hearing on the targeting of tea party groups who sought tax-exempt status. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Shulman purported he didn’t know how targeting of the groups happened and he did not become privy to all of the facts until reading a Treasury inspector general’s report last week.
Shulman is quoted by the AP as stating, “I agree this is an issue that when someone spotted it, they should have brought it up the chain. And they didn’t. I don’t know why.”
An IRS official publicly acknowledged the tea party had been among groups targeted while speaking to a legal group on May 10. The recent hearing was the second held by Congress pertaining to the matter.
