Philadelphia – A Pennsylvania abortion doctor convicted in the deaths of thee babies has been sentenced to life in prison. As reported the Associated Press (AP), Dr. Kermit Gosnell, 72, made a post-verdict deal in order to receive life over the death penalty, waving his right to appeal.
Gosnell was accused of performing illegal abortions past the state’s 24-week limit and killing babies he delivered live. He received two life sentences in the case, and faces a mandatory sentence of life in the death of a third baby.
Jack McMahon, Gosnell’s attorney, is quoted by the AP as stating, “He wanted this case aired out in a courtroom and it got aired out in a courtroom in a fair way. And now he’s accepting what will happen. He’s an intelligent guy.”
Federal drug charges are reportedly still pending against Gosnell.
