Washington – The Supreme Court appeared split Wednesday regarding the case of a doctor who alleged discrimination against a Texas medical center. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking to have a discrimination lawsuit brought by Dr. Naiel Nassar, who was awarded $3 million in damages by a lower court jury, thrown out.
Nassar reportedly left the center in 2006 after he complained of harassment, and purported a subsequent job offer at Parkland Hospital was withdrawn after a previous supervisor opposed it in retaliation.
Lower courts have reportedly remained split on the issue due to the allegations of two differing standards of causation in evaluating retaliation in the matter.
A decision from the justices in the High Court is expected to be made later in the summer.
