Dearborn, Michigan – McDonald’s has settled a lawsuit over Islamic diet claims allegedly made by a Michigan franchise over the availability of halal food. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the fast food giant and one of its franchise owners, Finley’s Management Co., agreed to a settlement of $700,000 to go to members of the Muslim community following claims that one of its restaurants falsely advertised having food prepared in accordance with Islamic dietary law.

Kassem Dakhlallah, an attorney for the plaintiff in the case, is quoted by the AP as stating, “McDonald’s from the very beginning stepped up and took this case very seriously… They made it clear they wanted to resolve this. They got ahead of the problem.”

How the settlement will be distributed will reportedly be determined at a final hearing.
