US – The North America affiliate of German automaker Bayerische Motoren Werke AG is reportedly recalling over 45,000 2005-2008 models of its 7 Series vehicles. As reported by Reuters, the recall is being implemented due to transmission flaws that could lead to the luxury vehicles rolling away when parked.
The 45,500 recalled vehicles may not automatically shift the transmission to park as designed due to a glitch in the software for vehicles featuring the keyless entry and Comfort Access option.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is quoted by Reuters as stating of the issue in its recall notice recently posted on its website, “If the driver exits the vehicle with the transmission in Neutral and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may roll away.”
