Denver, Colorado – The 17-year-old suspect in the death of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway is set to be tried as an adult. As reported by ABC News, Austin Reed Sigg appeared in court following his arrest last week on charges stemming from Jessica’s death and the purported attempted abduction of a jogger in May of this year.
Jessica’s body was found five days after her Oct. 5 disappearance. Sigg was reportedly arrested after making a confession to his mother, who called authorities so he could turn himself in.
In accordance with Colorado law, Sigg will not be eligible for the death penalty or a life sentence if convicted, although he is being tried as an adult. He is expected to appear back in court on Oct. 30.
