Russia – Drivers in Russia are voicing complaints over a new law that tightens the penalty for violators of a tinted window ban. As reported by AFP, the new law, which went into effect July 1, gives police the authority to remove number plates on vehicles that are found to be in violation of the ban if drivers refuse to scrape the tinting off when prompted.

Prior to the implementation of the new law, the most serious consequence of having windows too darkly tinted was a fine of 500 rubles ($15).

Reality television show host Ksenia Borodina is quoted in the report as stating of the ban to Life News website, “As soon as I let down a window, I heard ‘Girl, let’s get to know each other. Pull over to the kerb!’… I find it unpleasant, but I can’t do a thing about it. The law is the law.”
