New Orleans – Actor Kevin Costner has won a lawsuit in which a fellow actor claimed that he was cheated out of millions of dollars by the “Field of Dreams” star. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), a jury sided with Costner in a lawsuit brought by Stephen Baldwin, who along with a friend, was suing him for $17 million, making the claim that he was cheated out of large sums of money in a contract related to the use of oil-cleaning machines following the infamous BP oil spill in 2010.
Costner is quoted in the report as stating following the federal jury’s decision, “My name means more to me than money and that’s why we didn’t settle.”
James Cobb, an attorney for Baldwin, is further quoted in the report as stating of the outcome, “We’re disappointed. We thought we proved rather convincingly that these two guys, Mr. Costner and Mr. Smith, defrauded us… The jury saw it a different way but we respect the jury’s verdict.”
