Columbus, OH – A lawsuit brought against an Ohio hospital has been settled. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the lawsuit brought against Firelands Community Hospital, which is now called Firelands Regional Medical Center, was filed by a group of women who claimed a previous employee kept their stillborn fetuses in jars as opposed to disposing of them properly.
The class-action lawsuit filed in 1997, that included 180 women was settled for $1 million.
John Murray, an attorney for the women, is quoted by the AP as stating, “We’re very happy that we were able to bring this relief to the families… It’s been a long haul.”
Firelands spokeswoman Leslie Mesenburg is further quoted as stating, “After a long mediation process, both sides reached this amicable settlement… We are pleased that both sides can put this this case behind them and move forward.”
