Savannah, GA — A workplace accident involving a forklift killed a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local 1475 on Wednesday, March 28, 2012. The fatal workplace accident occurred at Georgia Ports around 10:15 a.m. at Berth 13 beside the Arietta, a 590-foot bulk carrier, Savannahnow.com reports.
Dianne Pinckney Cobb, 57, was hit and fatally injured by a forklift while working at Georgia Ports’ Ocean Terminal. The details surrounding the accident and how it occurred have not been released at this time.
Ports America released the following statement regarding the fatal accident: “… We are truly saddened by this tragic accident and reaffirm our commitment to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. We extend our deepest sympathies to her family and friends…”
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the fatal workplace accident.
All work has since been halted at the ship where the accident occurred while investigations are ongoing.
