Sugar House, UT — A 48-year-old Salt Lake man was killed Wednesday morning, January 25, 2012, when a patio structure collapsed at a residential re-roofing project. The fatal construction accident occurred around 9 a.m. at a home located near 2509 East Kensington Avenue (1522 South), reported FOX13Now.com

Salt Lake City Fire Department officials reported that the victim was working with a roofing crew at the home, when a 15’ by 15’ wood slat roof suddenly collapsed. The roof reportedly was weighted down by snow and extra wood that was lying on top prior to the collapse.

The victim, who remains unidentified, was on a ladder underneath the patio roof when it collapsed, trapping him underneath, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Responding emergency crews pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The state medical examiner’s office is holding the body until further investigation.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to join investigations.
