Syracuse, NY — A Liverpool man was killed Wednesday, January 25, 2012, when a chunk of ceiling collapsed from a building in downtown Syracuse that is undergoing demolition. The fatal work-related accident occurred at the Snow Building, located behind the University Building on East Washington Street, just before 1 p.m., reported YNN.com.
According to reports, Steven Pallotta, 25, of Liverpool, was working on the ninth floor of the building when a large piece of the ceiling, measuring at a 15 x 15-foot, fell onto him. Pallotta was reportedly standing on a ladder and taking down a piece of concrete when the accident occurred.
Responding emergency crews rushed Pallotta to Upstate University Hospital, where his injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead at 1:40 p.m., the Wall Street Journal reported.
JS Development reportedly employed Pallotta at the time.
Syracuse Police and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating.
