Miami, FL — Several American Airlines crew members were taken to the hospital after they were injured while experiencing turbulence during an international flight, reported CBS Miami.
Flight 980 was on its way to Miami International Airport from Recife, Brazil, when the plane suddenly hit turbulence about two hours into the flight.
The flight crew was reportedly moving around the cabin when they were caught off guard.
Passengers reported to CBS that the plane “just fell, a huge drop,” in which some people hit the ceiling and one woman was thrown from her seat into the hallway.
Several passengers began to panic, cry and scream after experiencing the turbulence.
One flight attendant suffered the most serve injuries when a food cart put a large hole in the ceiling of the plane, and came down and hit her.
Five of the six flight crew members were hospitalized after the plane landed in Miami. They have since been treated and released.
