New York City, NY — A New York City Department of Correction bus rolled over on the New York State Thruway, leaving several inmates and staffers with injuries Wednesday morning, January 4, 2012. The bus accident occurred around 10:40 a.m. while on its way to Ulster Correctional facility, reports MyFoxNY.
State Police reported that the bus was carrying 16 inmates and three prison staffers at the time of the wreck.
Several inmates and the staffers sustained minor injuries in the accident and were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. The bus driver was reportedly pinned inside the bus.
The correctional bus had apparently been cut off by another vehicle, leading to the rollover.
The bus was returning from a New York City jail for court appearances and was on its way back to the medium-security prison at the time.
Investigations into the bus accident are underway.
