Brecksville, OH — A semi-truck hit and killed a construction worker along I-77 Thursday morning, November 10, 2011. The fatal accident occurred near State Route 82, around 10:37 a.m., reported Fox 8 WJW.
According to reports, John Ccstlow, 40, of Akron, was installing construction signs along the side of the interstate when a passing semi-truck went off the road, and hit and killed Costlow. The impact threw him into his construction truck and then about thirty to forty feet, before he came to a rest.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Jesse Carter, 59 of Maple Heights, pulled over after striking Costlow and is cooperating with authorities.
Carter claims that he dropped some papers in his truck and bent over to pick them up, but when he looked up he saw Costlow in front of his rig.
Costlow was reportedly working for KoKosing Construction at the time of the accident.
Carter is submitting to a blood alcohol test, as per standard procedures. In addition, investigators are looking into whether he was talking on the phone or sending text messages at the time of the collision. Carter claims he was not using his phone.
Investigations are underway. No charges are being pressed against Carter at this time, and he was released from police custody Thursday afternoon.
