Florence, KY — One worker is dead and another was injured during workplace accident at a sanitation project in Florence. The fatal work-related accident occurred in a residential area of Sky View Drive around 11 a.m., reported WLWT.
According to reports, the workers were underground while testing a line by filling a rubber bladder with air to test the pipe at its seams. During the testing the bladder ruptured, which caused the compressed air to explode, leaving one man dead and another injured.
The injured worker and a coworker called 911 and alerted authorities of the fatal accident. A space rescue team and firefighters were dispatched to the scene to rescue the workers.
Two hours later, rescue teams pulled the fatally injured worker out from the hole. Sewer gases and the dangerous situation led to the delay in retrieving the man from the hole.
The injured worker denied medical treatment and was not taken to an area hospital.
The identity of the deceased worker is being withheld at this time.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the fatal workplace accident.
