Waldorf, MD — A collision involving a commuter bus and a motor vehicle left a Fort Washington man dead on Monday, October 17, 2011. The fatal traffic accident took place around 6:15 p.m. on Mattawoman Beantown Road (MD Route 5) near Poplar Hill Road, reported the WJLA.
According to reports, the commuter bus was pulling out of a lot on Mattawoman Beantown Road when the bus driver failed to yield, and subsequently crashed into a Ford Focus.
Responding emergency crews rushed the driver of the Ford, 20-year-old Carlin Biles, to an area hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries. After arriving at the hospital, his injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead.
The bus driver, 46-year-old Anthony Ricardo Fairchild of Glenarden, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was also hospitalized.
The bus was transporting 15 people at the time of the crash. The passengers were reportedly evaluated, but it is unknown if anyone was hospitalized.
Investigations into the bus accident are underway. Collision reconstruction investigators are at the scene to help determine what exactly happened.
