Plano, TX — Drop-side cribs by sold Yu Wei Co., which were exclusively at JCPenney are being voluntarily recalled for entrapment and suffocation hazards the defective cribs pose to consumers. Yu Wei Co. and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the nationwide product recall on October 5, 2011.
The product recall was issued after it became apparent that the drop-side rails on the cribs can malfunction, detach or unexpectedly fall down, which will cause part of the drop-side to fall out of position, the CPSC stated. A space is then created where a young child can become entrapped, leading to suffocation or strangulation. Children can also fall out of the crib.
These hazards are created from incorrect assembly and due to age-related wear and tear.
The CPSC reported, “This recall involves Yu Wei full-size cribs sold under the Scroll and Lauren model names. The cribs were sold in antique white, pecan and dark cherry, and have the following model numbers and date codes listed on the inside of the crib’s end panels.”
The following cribs are involved in this recall:
• Model #: 343-8225
• Description: Scroll Crib
• Date Code Between: 01/2006-12/2010
• Model #: 343-9117
• Description: Lauren Crib
• Date Code Between: 01/2007-12/2010
The recalled cribs were sold exclusively at JCPenney stores and JCPenney.com.
Consumers are advised to contact Yu Wei for a free immobilizer kit to keep the drop-side from malfunctioning. Until the crib is repaired, parents need to find other sleeping arrangements for their children.
For more information concerning the product recall, consumers can contact Yu Wei at (877) 806-8190 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit www.yuweicribrecalls.com. Consumers can also email the firm at [email protected] to order a free immobilizer kit.
