Milwaukee, WI — A workplace accident at the Caterpillar plant in South Milwaukee left a worker dead Thursday afternoon, September 8, 2011. The fatal industrial accident occurred in the weld shop area of the plant, which makes construction and mining equipment, reported CanadianBuisness.com.
According to Caterpillar, the worker was in the weld shop area when he was hit by a welded structure that was being moved inside the plant.
The workplace accident left the worker—who remains unidentified—with fatal injuries.
Responding emergency crews pronounced him dead at the scene.
Caterpillar is cooperating with investigations into the fatal industrial accident. Officials with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are also expected to arrive at the plant to conduct its own investigation.
Caterpillar is offering counseling for its workers who request it. Production employees were sent home following the deadly work-related accident.
The world’s largest construction and mining equipment manufacturer, which is also known as “CAT” is based out of Peoria, Ill.
