Marin County, CA — A construction worker was fatally injured after falling from a roof and hitting his head at a construction site Tuesday, September 6, 2011. The fatal construction accident occurred at a residential construction site near Tiburon, at 186 Thomas Way in the Paradise Cay neighborhood, reported the Marin Independent Journal.
According to officials, the cause of the 10-foot fall from the roof is unknown at this time, but the victim was found unconscious on the ground after another worker heard a noise from the other side of the residence.
The worker, identified as Gabriel Vasquez, was rushed to Marin General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The contractor at the residential construction site was identified as Weiss Builders Inc.
The sheriff’s Coroner’s Division is investigating the cause of death. Investigators with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are also expected to conduct an investigation into the fatal construction accident.
Cal/OSHA reports show that a total of 302 workers died on the job in California last year. Of those accidents, 40 were in the construction field in which 19 died from falls.
