Minneapolis, MN — The Target Corporation has voluntarily recalled about 206,000 step stools with storage for fall hazards the product poses. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the voluntary product recall on August 4, 2011.
The nationwide product recall was issued after discovering that the wooden step stools that were exclusively sold at Target stores, can brake apart or collapse under the consumer’s weight, which poses a fall hazard.
Target has received 26 of the stools breaking or collapsing, in which two adults fractured their wrists and another fractured her hip and pelvis. Six children and one adult also sustained scrapes and bruising as a result of the defective product.
“The wooden step stool has two steps and comes in various colors, including natural, natural and red, white and honey. The Circo step stool has a lid on the bottom step that lifts to provide storage. The Do Your Room (DYR) step stool has a lid on the top step that lifts to provide storage. The step stools measure approximately 13” H x 13 5/8” W x 14 1/8” D. The Circo brand name or DYR brand name and UPC numbers are printed on a label found underneath the step stool,” reported the CPSC.
