Waterloo, NY – (New York City injury lawyer news) On Friday, July 23, 2011, a New York City-bound tour bus was involved in a highway crash with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 90 in Waterloo, New York. The New York bus crash resulted in the death of one man and injuries suffered by 30 others, as reported by New York City injury lawyer, Jonathan C Reiter.
The New York bus crash occurred on the New York State Thruway in Waterloo, at approximately 1:30 a.m., according to reports from CBS New York and Fox New York. Reports indicate that the Farr’s Coach Lines bus was pulling back onto the highway when it was rear-ended by a tractor trailer. After impact, both vehicles burst into flames.
The driver of the tractor trailer that hit the bus, Timothy Hume, 59, was killed in the crash. Of the 52 passengers inside the Farr’s Coach Lines bus, 30 suffered injuries in the truck and bus crash.
New York City injury lawyer Jonathan C Reiter reports that state police were unsure how soon the bus was hit after it pulled into the driving lane, but reported that “It probably wasn’t up to speed.” Trooper Mark O’Donnell told reporters “We’re not sure if the bus was totally in the right lane or in the shoulder.”
New York City injury lawyer Jonathan C Reiter adds the driver of the bus, Rene Bisson, of Ontario, was ticketed after the New York bus crash for a suspended license. Police reported Bisson held a valid driver’s license in Canada, but his New York license was suspended prior to the New York bus crash for speeding tickets issued in 2003 and 2006.
Bisson reportedly failed to file paperwork to reinstate his driver’s license after paying the speeding fines, according to sources.
New York City injury lawyer Jonathan C Reiter reports that the bus company, Farr’s Coach Lines, held a satisfactory rating from the American Bus Association.
The New York bus crash is the most recent of a series of several fatal bus crashes this year, explains New York City injury lawyer Jonathan C Reiter. During this year alone, 32 individuals have been killed and 323 injured in bus crashes.
On March 15, 2011, a tour bus traveling to Chinatown overturned near the Hutchinson River Parkway exit and resulted in the death of 13 people. This New York bus crash was reportedly the “worst loss of life” in any single accident since the American Airlines’ November 12, 2001 crash in Queens.
Several months prior to this fatal New York bus crash, a September 11, 2010 bus crash occurred. The double-decker Megabus was traveling from Philadelphia to Toronto when it ran into a low railroad bridge on the Onondaga Lake Parkway in Salina. New York City injury attorney Jonathan Reiter points out that four people were killed in the incident. Mr. Reiter is representing the family of one of the people killed in the bus crash.
