Los Angeles, CA — A 2-month-old boy was hit by a car that jumped a curb in downtown Los Angeles, leaving him in grave condition on Thursday, July 14, 2011. The infant, who was in a stroller, was hit near 4th and Spring streets, reported the Los Angeles Times.
According to the LAPD, the driver of a Cadillac Deville hit the gas pedal instead of the break while trying to park. The sudden acceleration caused the car to hop the curb and hit the stroller, which was holding an infant.
Responding emergency crews rushed the baby to L.A. County-USC Medical Center for treatment of injuries. The baby’s mother was uninjured in the accident. Police took her to the hospital to be with her son, who is said to be in “grave condition.”
Police say it did not appear that drugs and/or alcohol were involved in the accident, but the driver was not wearing shoes at the time.
LAPD say it didn’t appear that the driver would be placed under arrest for the accident.
Investigations are underway.
