Franklin County, OH — A small plane crash at the Rickenbacker Airport Sunday morning, June 19, 2011 killed a prominent New Jersey surgeon and his wife. The small plane crashed just east of the runway, reported NBC4i.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Viswanathan Rajaraman, 54, and Mary J. Sundaram, 50, both of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, were returning home after attending their daughter’s graduation from Georgetown Law in Washington D.C.
They were both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by responding emergency crews.
Officials reported that it is still unclear what caused the Cirrus CR22 plane to crash.
Accident reports stated that the plane was taking off and heading to New Jersey after refueling at the airport when the crash occurred.
FAA records showed the plane was owned by Buds Aviation LLC in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Rajaraman had rented the four-seater plane.
Rajaraman was the co-chief of the Division of Neuro-Oncology at the John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center, NBC4i reported.
Investigations are underway.
