Chicago, IL — A collision between a casino bus and at least one car injured about 20 people and shut down some northbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Express Way Sunday, June 5, 2011. The automobile accident occurred around 6 p.m., in the local lanes of the northbound Dan Ryan (I-90/94) near 47th Street, reported the Chicago Sun Times.
According to State Police, two vehicles, including a Dodge sedan, and a tour bus collided on the highway. The tour bus reportedly swerved suddenly, which threw passengers around the passenger bus, including an elderly woman who wound up on the floor.
Twenty people were rushed to local hospitals for treatment of injuries. Eight victims were in good condition and 12 others were in fair condition. Another 31 people on the bus refused medical treatment. None of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
The injured passengers were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Holy Cross Hospital, St. Bernard Hospital and University of Chicago Hospitals for treatment.
The tour bus is operated by Royal Excursion out of Mishawaka, Ind. The bus was headed back to Chinatown from Gary’s Majestic Star Casino.
Investigations into the bus accident are underway.
