Denver, C0 — The 27-year-old Colorado Rockies fan who slid down a staircase rail and fell, leaving him with critical injuries, has died. The fatal accident occurred at Coors Field during a Colorado Rockies game on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at about 4:10 p.m. in stairwell 12 on the concourse level near the Rockpile section, reported the Denver Post.
Witnesses stated that “the victim was attempting to slide down the staircase rail, he lost his balance and fell off the rail and struck his head,” according to Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
Robert Seamans was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center where he was declared brain dead 12 hours after the accident.
Since Seamans was an organ donor, his organs were harvested after he was declared dead Wednesday night.
Seamans was at the game with his girlfriend, who witnessed the whole accident unfold. The death occurred just one week before Seaman’s birthday.
The Colorado Rockies Baseball Club issued a statement Thursday concerning the incident: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of one of our fans. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and friends of this young man as we all grieve for his loss.”
