New York, NY — A head-on collision involving a New York City-bound commuter bus and a SUV sent five people to hospitals Wednesday morning, May 18, 2011. The automobile accident occurred on I-495 near the Lincoln Tunnel just before 8 a.m., reported North Jersey.com.
According to the Port Authority, a westbound SUV that was traveling in the left-most lane abutting the express bus lane, when the SUV crossed over into the oncoming bus lane and slammed head-on into a bus.
Responding emergency crews rushed the driver of the SUV to Jersey City Medical Center in serious condition. In addition, four passengers on the bus were taken to Palisades Medical Center for treatment of injuries.
Investigations into the accident are underway, and officials say it is still too early to tell whether the rainy conditions played a factor.
The bus is operated by Carl R. Bieber Tourways.
