Tampa, FL — A 36-year-old Tampa woman was arrested after being investigated for over a year for allegedly staging an accident to collect insurance money. Tina Marie Figueroa was arrested on Monday, April 11, 2011 with felony charges of insurance fraud and staging an accident, reported the St. Petersburg Times.

According to officials, Figueroa admitted on audio and video to being involved in an intentional crash in December 2009 and planning another intentional crash in April 2010.

Figueroa collected $1,000 from an insurance company in the 2009 crash, after complaining of back pain, according to arrest reports. It doesn’t say which insurance company paid.

In 2010, Figueroa began to plan to pay a driver and passenger to stage another fake crash, fake injuries and collect compensation.

But, what Figueroa wasn’t aware of was those she was discussing the fake 2010 crash with were undercover state fraud investigators.

Figueroa was arrested and is being held in a Hillsborough County jail on a $21,000 bail.
