Oklahoma City, OK—An accident at a restaurant in the Paseo Arts District has claimed the life of an employee who fell down a dumbwaiter shaft and sustained severe head injuries and broken bones. The workplace accident occurred on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Paseo Grill Reserve, located at 2916 Paseo St., as reported by News OK.

According to officials, Cheryl Marie Bauer, 21, was rushed to OU Medical Center in critical condition by responding emergency crews, after she fell to the basement with the dumbwaiter.

Bauer was apparently loading or unloading the dumbwaiter, when it had a mechanical malfunction and fell to the basement, taking her with it.

Bauer succumbed to her life-threatening injuries at the medical center on Monday, just three days after the accident.

“Bauer was an employee of Sauced, the restaurant next door at 2912 Paseo St.,” restaurant spokesman Phil Bacharach said. Sauced is connected to Paseo Grill Reserve and is owned by the same people.

“In the wake of this terrible accident, our thoughts and prayers are with Cheryl’s family, friends and loved ones,” Sauced owners Joe Jungmann and Lesley Rawlinson said in a news release. “We are heartbroken and dearly miss Cheryl.”

A full investigation into the accident and how it exactly happened is underway. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is also expected to arrive at the scene to conduct an investigation of its own.
