Los Angeles, CA—A security guard was killed after being struck by an out-of-control passenger van on the set of CBS hit show “NCIS.” The fatal accident occurred Wednesday morning, February 9, 2011 at the L.A. set, as reported by TMZ.

According to police officials, a 60-year-old male driver apparently experienced some sort of medical emergency, while behind the wheel of a passenger van used for the production. The driver lost control and struck a 52-year-old male security guard.

The security guard, who remains unidentified, suffered critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. The security guard was pronounced dead a short time after arriving at the hospital.

CBS is cooperating with local authorities in Santa Clarita and has suspended production on the show until further notice.

NCIS producers, cast and crew released a joint statement saying, “With profound sympathy we mourn the tragic passing of our co-worker and friend. NCIS is a family. And, as with any family, we are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.”

Investigations are underway.
