1 killed in Florida school bus, SUV crash near Tarpon Springs; 17 students hurt

Holiday, FL– A two-vehicle collision involving an SUV and a school bus injured over a dozen students and killed the driver of the SUV. The fatal automobile accident occurred around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2011 on the northbound side of Anclote Boulevard at Sweetbriar Drive, as reported by My Fox Tampa Bay.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office reported the bus was headed to Paul R. Smith Middle School in Holiday, with 35 to 40 students on board, when it collided with an Isuzu Trooper. It is unknown what caused the crash.

Responding emergency crews rushed 17 students to local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Officials said all the injured students suffered non-life threatening injuries, which consisted of minor scrapes and neck pain.

The school bus driver was also injured, but her condition was not released.

The driver of the Isuzu did not survive the crash.

Pinellas County deputies and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are investigating the fatal school bus accident.
