Downers Grove, IL—A construction worker was rushed to the hospital after he became pinned underneath a piece of heavy machinery at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. The construction accident occurred inside the hospital’s mechanical room at around 10:17 p.m., on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, as reported by WGNTV.
The Downer’s Grove Fire Department reported that the man was inside the mechanical room when two 500-pound air condition coils fell on him. The construction worker was trapped underneath the coils for about an hour and 20 minutes before the rescue crews and the hospital’s trauma team could free him.
“Because it was at the hospital, the (Good Samaritan) trauma team was on site and they were able to help him out with anything medically, while our workers worked to free him from that situation that he was in, ” said Downers Grove Fire Department spokeswoman, Marsha Giesler told WGNTV. “After that they took him straight to the emergency room.”
The unidentified worker is still being treated at the hospital.
It is unknown what the worker was doing for the coils to become lose and fall over. It was not reported whether OSHA will investigate.
