School bus, snow plow crash in central NY injured 18

Savannah, NY—A collision involving a school bus and a snow plow injured 17 students, and the bus driver on a central New York road on Thursday, January 20, 2011. The automobile accident occurred around 7:50 a.m., at an intersection in the rural town of Savannah, 30 miles west of Syracuse, as reported by Fox News.

Wayne County sheriff’s officials reported that two injured students were trapped inside the Clyde-Savannah Central School District bus for 30 minutes following the crash, while the female driver was trapped for about an hour.

A helicopter transported an 11-year-old boy and the driver to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment of their injuries.

Responding emergency crews rushed 16 other children to an area hospital for treatment. Nine of the 16 injured students were treated and released, and one was transferred to a Rochester hospital.

The driver of the snow plow was uninjured.

It is unknown what caused the accident. A full investigation is underway.
