Los Altos, CA—A 76-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed by an SUV on Wednesday, December 7, 2010 in Los Altos. The fatal collision occurred around 3:11 p.m., at Los Altos Avenue and Hacienda Way, as reported by the San Jose Mercury News.
The pedestrian was identified as 76-year-old Los Altos resident Patricia Blankenburg.
Los Altos police reported that Blankenburg was struck by a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 54-year-old Redwood City man. Apparently, the driver was headed east on Hacienda Way, toward the intersection, just as Blankenburg was headed north on Los Altos Avenue.
Officials reported that there is a stop sign at the end of Hacienda Way, and preliminary investigations showed the driver did stop at the stop sign.
Blackenburg was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The SUV driver is reportedly cooperating with officers.
“We will complete our investigation, which will take anywhere from a week to two weeks, and then we’ll present the case to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. It will be up to them to determine whether there will be any criminal charges filed,” said Capt. Andy Galea of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Investigations are underway.
